Moyobamba, known as the "City of Orchids" and the "Cradle of Eastern Peruvian Culture," was founded on July 25, 1540, as "Santiago de los Ocho Valles de Moyobamba," the oldest Peruvian Amazonian city established by the Spanish. Located on a circular plateau of reddish clay, it has been the original capital of the entire Amazon, the capital of the General Command of Maynas, the Litoral Province of Loreto, and currently the department of San Martín.

This report summarizes the most relevant data on the region's economic, geographic, cultural, biological, and gastronomic aspects, as well as its wealth of characters, mythology, and traditions.
